Good, but not the best.Mar 27, 2008

I have IBS & intestinal malabsorption issues stemming from SIBO [small intestinal bacterial overgrowth] and must supplement with highly effective probiotics to restore appropriate flora balances.
I have found Florastor to be effective -- much more so than what I purchased from my local health food store, Whole Foods, and our buying club/coop -- BUT it is not the most powerful probiotic out there. For me, VSL#3 is hands-down the most effective probiotic available, and it's what I depend on to regain balance.
That said, Florastor is leaps and bounds beyond most probiotics available, and it is substantially less expensive than VSL#3 -- which should only be used under supervision of a physician and is considered a "medical food" to treat everything from IBS to SIBO to even Crohn's and ulcerative colitis -- so I think Florastor is a very good option for most people.
Minor con: the company that shipped this did so in somewhat sub-par packaging and the bottle itself (glass with a paper label) had a very faded, partially peeling label and a somewhat damaged seal on the lid. The seal was still partially intact, and since refrigeration is not required for this product, I was not worried that it was a little beat-up, but it was slightly disconcerting nonetheless, or at least surprising.
Minor plus: does not require refrigeration, as opposed to VSL#3, but making fridge space isn't a major deal either way -- this is nice, however, for traveling and office storage.
Another plus: vegetarian capsules, great for vegans like me who don't want gelatin in their supplements.

I was taking a strong antibiotic called Augmentin for an eye infection. Well, it killed the "good" bacteria in my gut and contributed to a severe intestinal infection called c. difficile, which is potentially fatal. Thankfully, my physician recognized what was happening, put me on another medication and recommended probiotics.
I did some research and found Florastor and another product called Culturelle. Have been taking both for two weeks and feel better than I've felt in years. The GI infection is gone, I have more energy, and am now as regular as a 23-yr. old.
Florastor is great product. Check it out and see if it's right for you.

After taking antibiotics, I developed a nasty gut infection that kept coming back after repeated treatments from my doctor (the treatment was HORRIBLE). I finally read about Florastor and decided to start taking it immediately when my symptoms started returning for a 3rd time. I took 2 a day as recommended, and within 2 days I was feeling better, within 1 week I no longer had symptoms. I kept taking it for 2 months just o be sure. I'm now good as new. I will never take antibiotics again without taking Florastor at the same time. It just saves so much pain.

I have been using Florastor probiotics for two years because I am on long term antibiotic therapy which has caused severe c. difficile. To avoid c. diff Florastor came highly recommended by both my sister and gastroenterologist. Since taking Florastor with great results and recommending it to others who also found it to be very effective against bowel and digestive tract fungals I wont leave home without it, especially when I travel out of the USA. We have a home in S.E. Asia, where drinking water can be contaminated, as well as in the US, and Florastor has worked better than any other probiotic for my family and myself. Hands down, this product is worth every penny! Probiotics do not resolve every issue for every individual, but in my family and friends' cases this has proven very effective for bowel specific conditions of c. diff and other flora issues. I highly recommend this for anyone taking oral antibiotics such as Amoxicillin, Keflex, Doxycycline and Ciprofloxacin, all of which I taken it for with great results.

Very good product. I initially purchased a 50 count box after reading many reviews in an IBS forum and researching the company. I take one a day with (1) 40mg of Nexium to help with my IBS-D and excessive gas symptoms. I have since been on this product for 4 months and it has greatly improved my IBS-D symptoms. Today, I purchased the 6 pack. It's well worth the money if you have IBS with D and gas symptoms.
